Bertram 20 project

Post by John F. »

I've had this boat since about 2008. They are a number of build threads on the site if you want to look into it. I bought her as a Moppie that had been converted into an outboard. After a couple of years, I took the windshield off, smoothed out the foredeck, built a center console and bought a leaning post. She's maybe my favorite boat ever. She's light, (was) fast, really nimble, and just great to light tackle off of. Incredible ride. The stringers and deck are rotten, and were when I got her. The Yamaha 200 she came with finally got to where it needed to go, and I derigged her a year ago with the idea of redoing her. However, I inherited my Dad's Edgewater 22, that my wife loves, and I just don't see using the B20 anymore. So, she's sort of reluctantly for sale. The pics of her running are from how she used to look. The pics of her in pieces are how she is now. She comes with the console, leaning post, steering, controls, tank, and trailer. I'm asking $3500 for her with the trailer. I'm not sure if that's a lot, but with the work to the foredeck and transom, I think she's more than worth it. I'm only listing her here because she has to go to a Bertram guy that's going to redo her. She needs stringers, deck, and the transom recored. If she doesn't sell to the right buyer, I'll keep her wrapped up and eventually redo her just because she really deserves it.

John,

Your B20 is a very interesting project. I have a B20 which was also converted to an outboard (Suzuki 225) full transom with a bracket. That boat is my January/February project this year. I am super impressed how well the B20 rides and also how dry it is. Someone would be lucky to get your boat as a project.

Rick

Thanks. Everybody that’s been on my B20 has been super impressed by how well it rides. The 20 is a great hull. It’s also small and light and really easy to tow.

Cam. You did a great job on your 25. It’d be great to see what you do with the 20. I love current layout, and never thought I’d sell it. But, it’s just sitting, and needs to get back in the water and fished.

My boat still has the original bow and windshield. It has an aluminum framed canvas top. The floor was raised so that the boat is self bailing.

My plan is to add a rear wrap around bench seat with an island cocktail table. This boat will be strictly for enjoying the sunny south florida afternoons with a couple of cocktails.

Cam, go back through the photos. The boat already has some nice hardware and trailer! Glass in the transom and add a bracket and you'll have a really nice boat!
