Netscape Wall Street Journal Article

Today's (Sunday) Netscape had a news article from The Wall Street Journal on the Ethanol issue that clearly showed that the Corn Ethanol/ Congressional lobbies/ farm state payoffs are the sustaining issues as even the environmentalist whackos are starting to realize what it's costing us while doing nothing to improve the fuel issue. They've suddenly realized the higher cost of corn has raised the price of feed, thus raising the price of all meats and poultry. The over utilization of farmland for this now highly profitable crop has the potential of creating another dust bowl in the midwest in future years...but who cares now? Grab the money and run! Everybody growing big bucks corn also raises the price of less available (who's got the space?) other grains like soy, wheat, rye and barley. What a set-up for inflation. They've finally figured out it costs more and uses more energy to make than it provides...as well as lowers mileage so you have to buy more fuel to get what you would get without it.
All this (and more in the article) being said, no one sees anyone shutting off the valve on Ethanol in the near future...and later, so much will have been invested in plants, etc. they'll fight like hell to keep it.
It DOES look like we have a friend in The Wall Street Journal, as this is the second national exposure to the pitfalls of Ethanol they have given us. Walter

Thanks for the tip, Walter. Here is a link to the article:

Meanwhile I still don't see any evidence that Big Oil regards ethanol as part of their future. Are they being stubborn, or do they know something that they are not sharing with us?

These guys are not dumb. You would think that they'd be saving their asses long term by preparing for the Ethanol infusion, but that doesn't seem to be the case. All it will take is a 2008 Presidential candidate (it will have to be a loser as he/she will lose all the farm states) to expose the stupidity of this expensive "savior" that costs more and does less. Once the Environmentalists turn on it, the Democrats will turn on it ...and the Environmentalists are starting to realize how environmentally harmful the whole Ethanol concept really is. Walter

Consumer Reports has a pretty scathing article about ethanol on their website too.

Now it appears ethanol causes smog. Maybe we will get rid of this stuff someday, in spite of the lobbiest and all the money.
