Emotions of the past

Last week Chris and I went to a convention in Orlando Florida.
We saved a day to ride over to the Kennedy space center for a brief visit.
He and I hopped on a bus tour that took us past many of the "Launch Pads" as the driver entertained us with lots of historical facts.
As Chris and I strolled thru the museum we talked and he asked lots of questions about the development of the space age. Obviously I grew up in the 60's and had lots of thoughts and memories to share.
I have to say that the entire experience was quite enlightening as well as somewhat emotional.
Living in todays culture and thinking of the 60's the one thought kept coming to my mind was that back in the 60's our country was in termoil dealing with Vietnam, presidential assination, the sexual revolution, political unrest, riots and revolutions......but as I remember those times we as a society were a "Proud Society"
I remember when rockets were launched the nuns at our school made sure that we watched and cheered as our astronauts were propelled into space. I remember that my family and I were visiting realitives in New Orleans when Neil Armstrong stepped out onto the moon. I remember people listening to the raido broadcast of the Lunar walk and everybody cheering when Walter announced that Neil had actually set foot on the moon.
I remember going to Pensacola Buggy Works the day that the new cars were unvieled every year. This event was a "Big Deal" and the car lot was swarming with people.......I particualrly remember the 64 Chevelle....
My memory is that, even though our nation was in turmoil, folks were "Charged" and willing to fight to make a difference.
I left the Kennedy Space Center last week, feeling very proud to have lived and witnessed the 60's and 70's.....the space program and the 64 Chevelle! ! ! !
