Style and grace, Gert, Style and grace. Need more pix of the interior. Seeing the varnished pieces I want to see where they go.

I always wondered if the quality of Riva is better or worse than Bertram--is there any difference?
Always thought Bertram should have used stainless window frames like Riva.

Re: new project RIVA BERTAM 25
Gert,
Wow, what a beautiful little boat, and an amazing gut job. Does anybody know the history of the 25-26 Riva's. Did Bertram contract Riva to build these boats? Is it the same hull as the 25 Bertram? Although I love the 25 and 26 Bertrams, I really like the way the front windshield is curved on the Riva. It makes this boat look much more like a little 31 Bertram than the square front windshields on the smaller Bertrams.
Like everything else you do with boats, I'm sure this is going to come out first class. Thanks for the pictures. Please post lots of pictures of the finished product.

Re: new project RIVA BERTAM 25
Bertram licensed Riva to build 20 foot Bahia Mars and 25 foot Flybridge boats----the 20 looked the same as USA versions---25 were modified---I think all the 25's were v-drives.
Re: new project RIVA BERTAM 25
Just copied this off the RIVA website.
The first two Riva models in composite material were born: the day cruiser Bahia Mar 20’ and the cabin cruiser Sport Fisherman 25’. The new material was first accurately studied by purchasing the hull from the Bertram boatyard. The hull was subsequently redesigned and both models were then finished with wood details, in line with Riva's tradition.

From one of Gert's posts
"And of course Dick , it has been brushed , but Awlgrip will also go nice applied with a fine foam roller , but very important for this paint is use 10-15 % reducer an apply it below 75 Fahrenheit and the moisture in the air must be below 70 %. "

Gert-
I ran into one of Carlo Riva's old captains a couple of seasons back http://bertram31.com/newbb/viewtopic.ph ... iva#p71328
I was told that Riva's B31 had "Riva V-8s" which were raw water cooled Crusader 454s with intake and exhaust manifolds of Riva's spec. I was also told that the boat was "gone over" at Riva and they replaced all of the hinges, latches, etc. with the stuff Riva sourced.
Good work and good luck!

Gert, you present us all our ineptitude on a plate ,your workmanship is truly that of a master craftsman, to say I`m jealous would be a massive understatement, I hope that somewhere in your shop there is someone leaning your skills, so your tradition is carried forward, your photos are an inspiration to the rest of us ,please keep them coming, I love seeing these projects come together,it helps keep me on track with mine

Re: new project RIVA BERTAM 25
What materials are Riva manifolds made of? Their profile gives a little more room between the engines. I was told that it was some alloy and not cast.

Re: new project RIVA BERTAM 25
I do not understand the seemingly odd bottom paint.
Seems that it abruptly stops about 3/4 the length of the hull. It was in Gert's pictures as well as these. Definately not painted with the water line.
Is there some requirement for multi-colored hull bottom in case of capsize?
Curious...
Ian.

Re: new project RIVA BERTAM 25
Good eye, Ian; it appears that the painted area is consistent with the wetted area when the B-25 would be at plane. Maybe a drag-reducing coating? How 'bout it, Gert?!?

Re: new project RIVA BERTAM 25
Carlo Riva spend a lot of time at the Criss Craft yard and they did some things together , he went over to Dick Bertram to have a look how fiberglass boats were build ..jackryan wrote:Gert,

Bertram was tired of the (very nice) expensive curved front windows and made the 25 with straight angled ones ... Riva changed it back ( to our curved ones ).
He also changed the fly bridge window from positive to negative , to create a better wind deflector .... this was also harder to make..

Sanded it grid 240 , then epoxy primer it to get rid of all the silicone and have a good base layer, after that sanded it 360 for the first coat of Awl grip

Guys , this a tipical Riva bottom paint job , even the wooden ones have this , in the old days they used white gloss paint instead of antifouling.Tommy wrote:Good eye, Ian; it appears that the painted area is consistent with the wetted area when the B-25 would be at plane.
