6 inch exhaust flange

Good afternoon Faithful.
Getting ready to install my new bronze exhaust flanges for the 6" exhaust (outboard of the stringers), but i have run into a mind boggle. If i stay with the factory chrome scupper rings, i'm left with about 3/8" from the bottom of the stern on the flange. Does this sound right?, or should i forget about the factory scupper rings to move the flange up and seek another route for the scuppers?
Please let me know what you think, thank you all in advance...
