Diesel Fuel Additives?

I'm new to diesels, and Crows Nest (Detroit 8.2s) will be getting minimal use while I sort her out. I put 50 gallons of fuel in her yesterday (fixing the fuel gauge is on the list--hasn't worked since Doug bought the bought in 2002). Is there a recommended additive if diesel is going to sit for awhile? Thanks.

John,

Biobor-JF would be good, both for keeping algae in check and for lubricity due the low sulfur content of today's diesel fuels...

John,
Have used Stanadyne since launch. As with so many of us I don't get to use her as often as I would like and so fuel sits. This stuff works. Called the company last fall and told them how long it had been since refuel and they said as long as I kept the mixture up not to worry, that it kept on working regardless of age. I would, of course, take that with a grain of salt (hopefully not salt water). Changing filters and checking water separators is also crucial, not that I had to tell you that.
Hoping that Labor Day weekend to take Dreamsicle to Baltimore for the Indy street races. That will be a trip!
Last week brought a Chesapeake Bay buy boat from Reedville to Urbanna for the Buy Boat Rendezvous. The Iva W is 60 feet, weighs 40 tons. She has her third engine a Cat D13000 installed in the forties. It has 115 H.P. turning a 3" S/S shaft, forty-inch prop at a max of 700 rpm. and manages seven knots down hill. http://www.theivaw.com
Nice ride. Perfect day, high seventies and the Bay was slick. Still grinning!

Mine sat from 2002 to 2007 without being run. Threw a can of seafoam for every 20-25 gallons after the first 2 years (around when I bought her). I had no issues at all when I started her in 2007 for the first time in 5 years.

For regular use, I throgh some Howes in the tank....once in a while, the biocide....(not sure if it is the bio bor, but jar is similar.)

Seafoam for over the winter. (my experience has been good, so why mess with success)

Don't know if this is a good regime....but my engines run great @ 40 years old.
