Cummins Question

Can you guys tell me if Cummins makes a 6B.. engine that is rated a 525 Horsepower???

I see a boat listed for sale and they claim the engine is 6BTA5.9 and has 525 HP.

Sounds like an awful lot HP out of a 5.9 Block, to me.

Harry,,
The most I have heard from a 6B stock engine is 370HP.

It would seem close. Pretty high strung motor...

They might mean the QSB series, not the BTA series.

I could go down to AL. And pull 820 to 840hp out of a 6bta but it is expensive. Basicly used for truck drag racing but that not much more than 10second runs.they sell complete kits now., Bruce mention the QSB they can pull in excess of 1000hp. Now used in those tractor pulls. Problem is I would never leave Sweet home Alabama .

Okay.......now I have the complete story

Since we questioned the Horse Power the internet ad has been corrected to read "TOTAL HORSEPOWER"

Take a really good look at this Bertram and then read the specifications

Your right Bob on the drag stuff.

When we were testing the funny car after the build at PBIR, there were some diesel trucks running. One had a 6bta in a Ford the owner estimated with max boost was pushing 600hp.

First run it detonated. There's a real fine line on typical high diesel compression ratios of 22:1 for fuel ignition and high boost pressures of forced induction to create hp.

Spark ignited fuel engines are easier. They are getting 1000 hp out of 2 liter 4 banger rice burners.

Durability certainly is not the phrase of the day though.

Somebody spent(wasted) a chunk of money extending a 33 to a 37.

Boat is under powered at 260hp a side.

That explains why it doesn't look like an original 37.

The name on that boat seems familiar. Was she used for Charter at one time?

Harry for reliable marine use you can use bolt on kit for 450hp out of 5.9 6BTA storm block (2005 -2013) .this uses original Bosch fuel injection pump .this is 2013 let's forget everything you learn in the past in regards to that word ( marinise) cummins QSB truck or boat exactly the same motor from factory assembly line and then add on heat exchanger ,raw water pump.intercooler ,etc.this being said with a little talent not to hard to convert late model wrecking yard 6.2 liter cummins QSB and convert for boat use , at around 300 plus hp . My friend has 7 of them (mid island wrecking).if I had to build a 31 now this is how I would do it. There are so many shops selling parts due to cummins popularity you can purchase rebuilding kits for 1,300 bucks!
