Only country I've been to that had a "tips" jar on the counter at the customs office.

Bruce and John are probably both correct.
Stuff like that is more transparent over there. In the USA we've made it a fine art to disguise our corruption, or at least our media has.
Plus lack of accountability over there is about a decade ahead of us with all the Govt operated "businesses"....that's what we have to look forward to.

You are right on the mark.
That was about ten years ago or more, entering the Bahamas @ Bimini.
A year or so after that it changed to a donation jar for the boys and girls club, and a year or so later it was completely gone.
Too bad cause that donation and genuine courtesy was the obvious and easy way to get fast tracked.
