Many of the high schools across our country have "Pre Engineering" programs. My oldest grandson is taking the Pre Engineering class and one of the projects that they have to do is to make a "Moon Buggy". Alan brought it to our shop last night to do some final welding and assembly.

I am very proud of him and his team mates for having completed their project by themselves. Mr Coleman, the instructor, give each team guidance and alots shop time for them to work on the project. There are 5 teams building 5 buggies.......this video is of the one that Alan and his team built.

It sure makes me feel good inside to talk to these kids and see the excitement in their eyes when they actually weld 2 pieces of metal together......then to make a short ride on the final product of their efforts.

Click on each image and take a ride with Alan

Take a look and give all of these students across our country a pat on the back for taking an interest in such a positive program.

So all I gotta say is Look out Henry Ford......

That's great Harry someday he will be needed to restore the interstructure that's slowly being destroyed from two terms of this president.

Love to hear people still do hands on...nothing like it.

Especially good for engineers in my opinion.
Just cause it flies on paper doesn't always mean it will get off the ground...and giving some thought as to how it will or can be made is huge...cannot get that from a text book.

Kudos to your grandson and his teacher!

...and of course Kudo's to you for supplying the time and safe working facilities.

After the assignment is complete I have a sense that there could be some post-grad work involving a 5 hp Briggs & Stratton... Prof. Babb???

May be I can talk Alan into a T-Bucket Roadster.......that will fit my formula of horsepower vs weight (that is 1 horsepower per pound)

Harry if you do decide to go that route i am sure I can help you. I have a real nice stock bore 400 " small block chevy with 4 bolt mains . Drop in. A common 350" crank and you have a 377" screamer. When your ready give me a call.

Harry,
I was a Chevrolet dealer in my working yrs and I must tell you about General Motors schools.
There is a special school for bright kids that most don't know about.... General Motors Institute (GMI).
It was renamed Kettering University; some say the West Point for cars.
I know of two people that went there. They are very successful.
Ck it out on Google.
