My friend is considering a 32 Topaz---has anybody fished on one?

Looking at a 2000 with Cummins--located in Ocean City Maryland--REEL INSTIGATOR

Owned a 24 Topaz ... great boat
Ran a 44 Topaz for a day ... fast, nice looking and dry
Have seen many 32s, but have no experience on them

There's a 32 express in the marina next to mine. Has been in the charter (fishing) business for more than 10 years now. Great fishing boat.

We have a 32' topaz in the marina owned by a good friend of mine. What is it that he wants to know ?

The 32 was one of the later topaz hulls. It had a deeper v than earlier models which included the 36 and 38. While it was a little wetter they were a good hull.

Gel Coat was generally substantial


Things to look for:

Fuel tank strapping and tank condition, topaz is notorious for tank issues in older boats
Balsa cored top decks, check around anchor hauser, cleats and tower legs for soft coring


Is this a Original Annapolis MD Topaz or the NJ built rebrand?

The boat is a 2000 not sure where it was made. We did find a couple more in Cape May which is closer, probably look at those first. Also a 35 Preditor (Egg Harbor) and a 31 Cabo---any comments on those would be appreciated.

Bob, you met my friend, he bought the Gambler and spent two years rebuilding the boat only to lose it in Sandy. He is now looking for a newer boat that is turn-key.

I have been told the 31 Cabo is not that great in a head sea. There used to one next to me for a few years. Pretty boat.

Was a great Chick magnet for the owners son.

Believe it or not, from what I have been told, our 31's with diesels will leave that CABO in the dust in rougth water.

I owned two 31 berts (one flybridge and one express) and now own a 31 cabo. The cabo is a better ride than the berts I owned. Not a very fair comparison for the cabo is pushing 21 thousand pounds in the slings loaded and just is a larger boat.

Not to bad Charlie. Biggest knock is that is a wet boat. The 31 is a Lou Codjea design. So it rides soft. It is a big little boat if that makes any sense

Thank you. I owned her for several years now. Helm visibility has not been an issue for me.

When Egg harbor took over predator they went down hill quick....

I agree with the ride of the Cabo....I have one next to me and have been on it several times. Well built but not a great design.
