I had a used lathe that I bought delivered today. It had a scum of oil and coolant on it that looked like someone had doused it in chocolate syrup and let it dry. I tried diesel fuel and a scotch bright pad, but that was slow going and took way too much elbow grease. I decided to try a new cleaner that a friend recomended called Marine clean from POR-15. It is used to clean metal in preparation for painting with their rustproofing. It is a water based alkyline cleaner. The instructions say dilute 1 to 1 to up to 5 to 1 water to cleaner. I used 5 to 1. It absolutely melted that gunk off!! Much better than any other cleaner I have tried including the purple Castrol stuff. It is non toxic, non flammable, non corrosive and has no smell!! I cannot wait to try this stuff on the bilge of my boat. Try it. I guarantee you won't be disappointed!!
