Relays vs. Soleniod Switches

For wiring the underwater lights, I was planning to use Bosch type relays, rated for 30 amps, in order to avoid running big wire all the way to the flybridge and back down. I need the switches in the flybridge, in a semi-protected location.
Do I need to use solenoid type switches (like those used for remote battery switching) or are relays adequate? The solenoid style switch seems to be gross overkill. Lights should draw something less than 6 amps while in use.
Many thanks in advance.
