Did an engine survey today and in talking to the hull surveyor, who I know very well, while looking at the well worn cutlass bearings he told me the following.

A few months back he was doing a survey on a Hatteras that had some problems as there was a factory rep there examining the bottom with him.
The boat had been out a few weeks and the surveyor remarked that the engines were misaligned due to uneven wear and looseness in the cutlass bearings.

The factory rep replied, No that's supposed to be like that. When the boat is put back in the water, the bearings will swell taking up the excess space.

Huh?

The surveyor said he just chuckled and said nothing.

Bruce,
Did you ever think about writing a book? I've read stuff on the back pages of many sporting/boating magazines, that don't come close to what you post here.

Bruce,
A factory rep?, makes one want to go out and buy that brand, well Thudd did. The rep must of thought they installed bearings with a serving iron and oakum packing. Have a good trip out to Texas, I'm leaving for Ma. on Wednesday be back in Dec.
