Transmission question for Bruce

Post by Dave Kosh R.I.P. »

Bruce ,
I developed a leak in my port transmission oiler cooler (MG-502 TD)2-1.
Going to buy a Lenco replacement with better alloy inner sleeve. Just flushing the tansmission with Kerosene or Mineral Spirits then filling with new 30 weight non detergent oil. Is that OK or is it necessary to dissassemble and re seal? Dave K

Capt Dave,
Should be no reason to disassemble them.
I would not run flush them with any solvents, no lubricating properties.

Drain them and flush with 10w/30 and a 1/2 pint of denatured alcohol to absort the moisture and 1/2 pint of marvel mystery oil and mix with the oil. Only run at the dock.

Repeat till oil is clear and then go back to your straight 30 then take the boat out and run.
Check oil.
