That could have been avoided had the dyno operators been paying attention.
There were two indications of pending doom about 5 to 10 seconds before it blew.
If the throttle had been cut, they wouldn't have lost it.

And that is why it takes 8 solid hours just to prep. Crank and install in block!Nothing is taken for granted .we disregard main bearing caps cut them and align bore block and that's just the start.the Dyno. Room console has 4" gauges for all the parameters no excuse for that stupidly . Extra safety when AA fueler is on stand . Nitro Can be real nasty when the blower comes apart.back in the day s&k with Zul engines a big block 500 cubic inches single 4 barrel on pump gas put out 1857 hp we won the big one world champs in pro stock there was absolutely no luck involve.

Bob it don't matter how big the gauges are if nobody is there reading them.

Think they would have been tipped off by the noises emanating from the motor...5' gauges would have given the same result. My opinion anyway.

In an effort to Idiot Proof Gauges, Idiots came up with Idiot Lights. Only problem with Idiot Lights...the Idiots don't pay attention to those either.

The DYNO was made where I use to work and still do consulting for. I sent the clip to to the owner of Land and Sea to make sure he has seen it.

Sim this a totally different gene pool . Zul was a mechanical genius .serously he was always thinking of a better way.every cylinder was indexed that is exactly 90 degrees to the crank and equal distance between within 1/1000.experimenting with angle milling really did the trick . In offshore pro stock over 700hp from a completely stock looking mercruiser 350 cubic inch /280 hp . Rip down 9 times in a row by judges after a protest flag every race.the boat was undefeated for two year till they went to PR.. In the middle of the night they burn the boat to ground on a trailer under the lights! Modified class ( you had to see the looks of the competition when they uncover the boat with three exhaust pipes out the back! Twin small block Buicks ( Buick valve covers just to screw with there heads) actually gm division nickel blocks with Buick heads.ran 120 mph and won first overall like you building a jalopy in your garage and win the Daytona 500. Modified was two classes down from open boat class.we were hated to put it bluntly! Alot of people with a ton of money and sponsors on the line here.

What is going on at about second 14? Looks like the ductwork for the exhaust bends or expands.

Hopefully that is shatter proof glass.

Ian.

They were too busy videotaping to watch the gauges. Typical of younger people today.
