I believe the reel is designed for maximum casting capabilities. And is being used to throw waxwing jigs and poppers to tuna in the 40-80 lb class.
The earlier discussion was about a Calcutta 400 being about the largest baitcaster with a thumb bar. If you want to be able to cast to 50 lb tuna and don't want to use a spinning reel its seems like a nice option.
They are quite pricey no doubt.

I use the Calcuta 700 with 20# big game. The 400 is to small and the retreive is to slow

I wonder if a reel like that would have enough beef to handle a 60-80 pound Tuna.

No doubt Walter, take a closer look 7 ball bearings 25 lbs of drag. Apparently shimano spent a lot of time testing these.

Other than the fact Im not a fan of the name when will it be available (tranny what?).
I talked with our rep today and they have yet to see one. They are hoping for great things the technology now is incredible. Love that shimano owns power pro.k

I've got several Calcutta 700s and have caught tons of tuna up to 100# on them. I loaned a couple to my son who put Power Pro on them and tried to horse in 200# Tarpon....reels didn't like that,had to get them rebuilt. I tried to tell the boy the drag is for slipping, but shoot, it ain't his reels....
The Calcutta 700s are top notch and worth the money, just don't overload them with the Power Pro. I use 30# Ande on them.

JP, I haven't seen one either. I know Jose Wejebe is using them and saw them in action (TV) on the long range tuna boats in San Diego on Inside Sportsfishing. My local shop said end of March they should be in.
Brew I have 3 400s two of them have big game handles on them, I believe the gear ratio is actually higher then the 700s. 9 seasons and I just had the drags rebuilt this winter. Drag on the 400 equals that of the 700 and with 30lb braid capacity isn't an issue, I sold my 2 700s a couple of years ago.
