Looking for suggestions on Keys fishing charters

Post by STraenkle »

I have a friend that is looking to be in the keys in March. From any of you guys that know the area, he is looking for a good fishing charter and any suggestions on where to stay. At the moment he is thinking Key West and the lower Keys. I always liked the Marathon Area, but he has never been to the keys and I guess,Key west is what most people think of first. He is an avid fisherman and has been on my 31 many times. Recommendations on the fishing charter are more important than the place to stay.

Thanks for the help

If he is still there, Jeff Burns out of Oceanside Marina in Key West was very good. I fished with him several times.

I would recommend Capt. Chris Trosset, son of legendary Capt. RT Trosset:

Nick Stanzyck (sp?) out of Bud and Marys

Daytime deep dropping for swordfish, a little boring but a big payoff.

Kinda like hunting for a 145 and bigger whitetail from a tree.

Offshore? Inshore? Reef? Flats? Backcountry?

Whats his poison?
I don't know what the world may want,
But a good stiff drink it surely dont,
Think I'll go and fix myself...a tall one.

Thanks for your help guys, I will forward him your suggestions and see if he has a target species in mind. I am sure he would rather catch Mahi or Wahoo, but I will ask.

I'll be around the keys on Feb 18 and 19. I'm just looking to fly fish the flats. I just got a fever for fly flishing so I'm ready to try it in the Mecca of flat fishing.

If you want Tarpon, bonefish and permit on the fly. I know a lot of guys that use Bob Beighley. Personally don't know what's running in feb. but I'll see Bob on Friday at the fly fishing show in NJ if you want me to ask him.

Peter:

It would be great for you to ask him what's really running up there. I took a look at his site and looks very promising.

Will do. I know a bunch of guides up here that use him for their permit on the fly quest.

First time I've heard someone refer to KW as up there.

I'll get back tomorrow, latest Saturday.
