My first tournament win!

Saturday we fished the Monster Rockfish Tournament in the Chesapeake on my buddy's B35. Winds out of the NE gusting to 30 knots at 5:00am. We headed into the mouth of the Pax river with 6' confused slop. Wasn't looking pretty. Headed across the bay into relative protection from the wind, then south.

Of 65 boats, we had the 4th largest fish and won the TWT/Calcutta for Calvert Marina weigh station. We held 3rd overall until the last two minutes of weigh in. The big migratory fish haven't really shown up but we managed a 13 lb, 34" resident fish. It was interesting seeing charters bring in 18" dinks to the scales. Last year a 48" fish won (almost 50 lbs). This year, 25 lbs. Out of the 3 tourneys I've fished I've missed the big money by about 2 ounces twice now, but I'm one for three overall. We'll be out there again Nov 19/20 for the MSSA Fall Tournament. Anyone else fish it?

Congrats, Joe...now I gotta ask: how do you tell a "resident" fish from a migratory one? Tatoos?, license plates?

Migratory fish have faux-hawk haircuts, wear skinny jeans and appear as "grenades" with Ronnie on MTVs Jersey Shore show.:)

No, most migratory fish carry sea-lice from the much saltier ocean. They drop off after a few days in our brackish water.

Thanks guys, still waiting for the official phone call but we stayed at the weigh station til the end.
