Spiders

Post by Chanse »

Overrun with Spiders, maybe because of the new black FB cover?
anyway I thought i saw something on this site about a spray to use.
searched couldn't find it.
Anyone have any thoughts on something nasty to use? I seem to have way more than usual. TKS.

Best I've ever used for spiders is Cynoff WP, a powder you mix with water and spray from a Hudson sprayer. I get it from www.domyownpestcontrol.com and while kind of expensive ($50 a pound) a pound goes a very long way, and its great for all kinds of bugs - roaches, ants, dirt daubers, wasps, etc. and leaves a 90 day residue in areas where its out of the weather.

I tried dozens of potions trying to control spiders before finding this stuff.

No, Bob's stuff is called Bengal Roach Spray which is a nerve gas that renders the toughest (read: Louisiana) roaches dead as a hammer. Its a gas and leaves no residue, but will penetrate into voids inside walls. The Cynoff is a much wider range insecticide that leaves a killing residue. I've fought spiders on boats for 50+ years and the Cynoff is the only stuff I've used that kills the woo-woo outta them and then gets their offspring....you may have to apply it weekly for a few weeks to interrupt the life cycle, but it will finally erase them all.

Does the Cynoff leave any stains on the sunbrella, fiberglas or other?

Also I never had so hard of a time removing the damn spider drops.
Any magic cleaner or do I have to resort to rubbing compound?

Thanks.

The Cynoff will leave a slight white powder that's visible on dark surfaces where the droplets dry, but they won't stain and will wash right off. Its that residue that keeps on killing, so leave it in out-of-sight places.

Clorox is the magic potion for spider crap....mix about 50/50 with water and a few drops of Dawn to act as a "wetting agent", then brush on (or better yet, spray out of a Hudson sprayer), let it sit a couple of minutes and wash off.

Suspend SC is my weapon of choice for spiders. It comes in a concentrated liquid form and it also leaves a residual poison.... maybe the same one as Cynoff, not sure. I get it from the feed store for about 20% off of what the DIY pest stores charge.

Never sprayed the Sunbrella top directly. Just undersides of the boat house to attack their living quarters. Any overspray or drips on fabric haven't left any stains.

For spider crap on gel coat.... Simple Green...(8 bucks/gal @ Sams) undiluted works like a charm to disolve the spot, works better then clorox for me, but I hate the smell.

The only success I have had with spiders is a headlamp and a can of Raid ant & roach spray. About 10:00 at night when they are out on their webs, spray each spider. Check under flybridge top, hand rails, seats, pulpits, etc. and give them one shot. Takes about 5 minutes and last about a month.

Soft Scrub Gel with bleach melts spider crap away. Spread with a deck brush, let stand a few minutes and rinse.

Thanks for the responses,
They usually don't bother me that much
but they do this season and the wife is freakin'. Goin' to the boat right now (1-mile away from house) clean there poop. And ask them if they
have any last words or death preferences! Then I will select my weapon(s)
based on the info above.

The clorox combo really works! very pleased still got alot of work on it
but does the job.
The wife was gone for awhile (I live on an island) and returned with a
product she found with the help of a saleslady at WEST marine.
Now guys run to your nearest WEST marine and grab this.
Starbrite brand, Spider Away. It says on the label it SHOOS Spiders
Away WITHOUT HARMING THEM! WTF!
The salesladys name must have been Ms PETTA.
Needless to say im goin' with Vics idea, cause I wanta harm them!
