trolling valve for 3208T w/unknown gear

There's no "nameplate" on the gear...the engine is rated for 320 bhp. Any ideas on what trolling valve to get, who to get it from, and, most important, how to tell which gear I have?????? :)

Post a pix of the gear and we can tell you who made it. Installing a trolling valve is a big deal though, not just a simple bolt on....usually requires pulling the gear and/or engine. And in my view they are nothing but trouble - the way they work is to allow the clutch to slip, so increased wear is a result, plus if someone screws up and races the engine in gear with the valve engaged, it will usually render the gear tits up.

Never saw a 3208 that wasn't bolted to a twin disc.

Could be a 506 or 507 and if in a 31, 1.5:1 most likely.

Call twin disc after you confirm a model. Both ID plates gone?

You must be live baiting or fishing for king salmon or halibut.

One engine with over size rudders to steer cut the speed down. You lokking to get a 3 to 4 knot troll speed?

Bruce...i have 3208T in my 31 North Coast....320HP. They are bolted to a ZF 225A gear. I hnow there are loads of 220A around but had never heard of a 225 at the time i bought my boat. Guys at PanTropic Cat told me ZF made that 225 prior to the 220 and that the general dimensions and capabilites were nearly identical except for the 225 having a 5 degree down-angle vs. the 10 degree on the 220. Gears are out of production and probably have been for a long time now - ...so if you are seeing some weirdo gears on your Cats, maybe its a ZF. For sure if i saw a picture of it, i'd recognize it.

Yea never saw a ZF behind a 3208, always TD.

I know in the B28 repowering with the Yanmar 4lh's, I had to use the twin disc gear instead of the ZF for the 10 degree down angle so the engine wouldn't hit the hatch.

Back when I did my first few B28's after the 4lh's came out, ZF didn't have a 10 degree down angle.

Bruce: I have a single engine 26' boat w/12'beam and full tower. She idles at 4 1/2 knots. Need to slow her down to 3 or less for Striped Bass trolling. I'll try to get a photo of the gear.......I'm busy as a one-legged kickboxer!!!!!!!

While your checking, try and get a real reading on engine rpm and not thru the tach in gear at idle away from being tied up at the dock and what model controls you have and are they dual lever or single.
