Installing 31 engine boxes on a 28

I've got a crazy idea as I plan out converting my 28 FBC from 351 PCM's to a diesel boat, hopefully a with Cummins powerplants. Anyhow, I realize there is the whole engine hatch height on the 28 issue.
Does anyone ever hear of grafting 31 engine boxes on a 28?

Never heard of it. I've modified the hatches in height slightly (2 to 3") for engine clearance.
I've install Yanmar and Cummins 4 bangers without any hatch modifacations on certain year models.

I raised mine 4" which is the max you can go without drainage issues. It is really quite easy to do and at least leaves you with a level deck over the engines.
I personally wouldn't want different height hatches over my engines - it would be a major tripping hazard - the 28s are bad enough in that regard without adding more.

Hello,
I have a '78 B28 and have made a few modifications. Did not like the cockpit configuration or the engine boxes. I cut the step in the middle and fabricated new boxes which will hinge on the stern end. Am repowering with Yanmars(240hp). I have some photos-see link:

More than one way to skin a cat.
I raised the whole engine deck a bit. Not saying it was easy. But, nothing like Matt's complete rebuild.
Impressive

I'm impressed. That is actually the direction with the engine hatches I was thinking of.
It's nice to know that I'm not the only one.
