I was riding down the road today when I noticed a HUEY Helicopter sitting in a guys yard......although this is Alabama, not everyone has a HELICOPTER their yard.

Well......I decided to find out who this guy is and why he has a helicopter in his yard.....(needless to say I am impressed) so I stopped in to introduce myself.

He was in his shop and invited me in......and....holy crap.....there I found an Army Tank, a couple of Jeeps and out back was a Duce and Half.

After sniffing one another out for a minute or two he tells me that he is retired, moved south and simply plays with his toys all day every day.

I asked where he moved from....he tells me New York......I say what part of New York.....he tells me, Long Island.....I say OH!! ! what part of Long Island......he tells me River Head.

From there I tell him about our Rendezvous and my brother hood of Bertram friends in the northeast. Come to find out he is also a boater and lived in or near Laurel NY.

I am wondering if any of you guys know this guy....Graduated from Riverhead High in 1966, served in Vietnam, came back to Long Island built a business called Riverhead Radiator.......his name is Richard Miller.

Never know what you are gonna find around here

Harry...

Since you are in Alabama... I assume the Huey in the yard was up on blocks?

Absolutely, yes. "Richie Recore." He did lot of jobs for me and for friends, the largest being a Series 700 American La France that I had for about 10 years. I believe his son is still running the shop on East Main Street in Riverhead.

I was thinking what Charlie was. There was a place in Mattituck by the rr tracks where a guy had a tank and a helicopter. It was there for years, and now its gone.

even more interesting there is a small road that goes up to the bluffs looking over the long island sound in calventon . that big farm to the east observed fron that road has a barn which is really a airplane hanger with a jap zero and a p- 51 mustang in it . i saw them taxi down the grass field dog fight for 10 minutes or so then land and put the planes back in the hanger . never did get to work.

White Bear, you are correct in saying that Richards son is still running River Radiator. He told me that last night.

What is your real name....I will mention it to Richard when I see him again.

The tank he has runs very well. He tells me that it has a Rolls engine in it and that he drives it, with a police escort, to different functions.

On one of his jeeps he has a spotlight that has candle power equal to Obamas last spending spree.

I jokingly asked him if he could fire any of the guns.....he told me that Home Land Security strongly suggest not doing that.....

Small world......
