My 1983 26 Mk II Sport Convertible (outboard) has Hull No. BERD0405M83K-261-83. I can pretty much figure out that "BER" means Bertram, and the "83" at the end means the year of production (i.e., 1983). But what does the rest of it mean. Thanks.

I probably should have thought about this more before I posted. I think, perhaps, the 261-83 is not part of the required HIN, but something Bertram added. Taking that off, we are left with 12 characters. I think M83K means that it rolled out of the factory in June of 1983. BER is still Bertram. The D0405 must be the actual serial number. Any significance to it? Or the 261-83?

The 261 reflects the boat length (26'), model 1 (Sport Convertable). The hardtop and flybridge models would would be something like 262 and 263.
