Just caught an Earl report on Fox News about the Merrimac CG station, from the Merrimac River.
Beautiful shot of a white 31 FBC "stick boat". Couldn't make out the name.

Harv,
More than likely Rick Soucy's 31 Little Eva, total do over back in the late 90's. Did it have a big aluminum pulpit?
Time to batten down the hatches up on the island from Earl, looks like your going to be on the west side of the storm. Good side if there is a good side to any hurricane.
Missed you guys at the Greenport get together, sounds like it was a successful time. I couldn't work out logistics of MRI, X-rays, and doctor appointments on my knee at Hospital for Special Surgery in the city just 3 days before Greenport.
Keep your bow into the wind.
Pete

When I went to the movies with my stepson on Monday they played the Minute Maid commercial with the B31 and the shark. It almost made bearable the fact that they are showing commercials before the movie now!!

Pete, yes on the pulpit, and it also had what looked like a crow's nest tower. The transom was visible as was the name, I just couln't make it out.

Isn't that the one where he was using a sail bote mast for the pulpit & was wondering how long to make it. I seem to remember he wanted to make it 18' long.

Al,
That's the one, I think he ended up using a aluminum light pole from National Grid, works OK and is easy to take off and store, can't remember how long it is. I am going to be in Salem for a week 23 thru 29 of this month, is your boat still at Tucks Landing, did you have Dana do the repair work from last winters wind storm.

great footage yeah thats me,,boat is cream colored,,pulpit was fabricated from a 40 foot sailboat mast i found in beverly ma,, it hangs 20 over the front and 2feet on the bow pinned in a bracket,,the underside of the bow up in the anchor locker was glassed and supported backing plate etc to disperse the load and strain,
I am quite sure some of you think i have denigrated the boat,,much like those outboards on capt bones boat,.,.,but it is for a specific use at a specific time of the season,,it is easily removeable,,and like those outboards is one of a kind .,.,.and man aint she preety,.,.,now U.V. i could enumerate the benefits of hanging all that footage over the bow,,but i think you get the picture.,.,did i kill anything with it ,,yep.. an atlantic dolphin came up under me to hang arround with me.the first year i had it,.,I tested the electricution system attached to the harpoon and .,..,well.,.
,.,pushed down more than few times on the tuna ,.,.but they were not trying to be my friend
but what an adrenaline rush,
,,worth every thousand i spent on it and every hour it took me to create it

Pete,
I've been on the boat with no net access. Just saw your reply. I'm still at Tucks Point. Stop over if you have time.
Had to go to Manchester Marine as they were the only one that would not charge storage & had a shed big enough to fit my boat in. Dion's at first thought they could take me, then bowed out.

Timmy/Thudd took me to that inlet once on a day when it was blowing. Looked gnarly.

Ric,

Sorry to say, but, 2 of a kind.
Chocorua from Boston at the Newport Rendezvous a few years back.
Pulpit pulls up and secures to the tower.

Sort of answers the question of the strength and integrity of the Bertram 31 2-part hull, no?

Funny how those boats even look good with the long bow pulpit on them!!
