Mercury Outboard Question

Hi Everyone,
I have a non-31 Bertram question... I'm a Whaler owner (hopefully a B31 owner one day, but gotta start somewhere) and I'm having problems with a new throttle cable. I've asked over at Whaler Central and I'm not getting anywhere, so I thought I'd try here. I snapped a (20 year old) Morse throttle cable and replaced it with the Teleflex equivalent. I'm finding that, when I make adjustments on the motor (a '91 Merc 115), I can achieve one of two things: good idle speed, but not enough rpm at WOT or too high an idle in exchange for proper WOT rpm.
My question is this: is anyone aware of an adjustment that can be made at the control (Quicksilver top mount single control w/ tilt) to compensate for such a problem?
I read posts here almost daily and have seen some Whaler questions... hopefully I'm not committing bulletin board taboo :-)
Thanks!
