Bertram Yacht announced Alton Herndon as its new president.

"I am excited about the opportunity to join such a skilled and valuable team and look forward to working closely with the Ferretti Group in building first-class, top-quality sportfishing vessels," said Herndon. "Bertram has such a rich history and I am honored to become a part of it."

Herndon joins Miami-based Bertram, a brand of Ferretti Group, with more than 35 years of executive management experience, according to Bertram. He was president of Hatteras Yachts from 1985-1996 and held various roles in executive management positions with brands such as Palmer Johnson, Tiara Yachts, KCS International and was most recently co-founder and managing partner of Southport Boat Works based in Leland, N.C.

He has also served on numerous boards and committees, including as past member of the executive committee and board of directors of the National Marine Manufacturers Association.

Herndon studied business at High Point College and is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Executive Program. He served as Battery Commander in the Army National Guard's 113th Artillery Division.

Herndon replaces Mike Myers, who had a short tenure as president.

That was the crook Carl Herndon... Don't know if there's any relation between the two.

Herndon is not a super popular last name (ie Kelly ... happy St. Patricks day to all) ... I gotta think there is a family relation there.

I think hardcore Bertram guys might actually like this appointment. Those southports are pretty cool boats, beautifully finished. There is also a CR Hunt connection...

Where did Meyers come from. I knew of a fellow of similar name at a major fire truck manufacturer in the '90s (and they did make a few go-fast boats as a side line). Just curious.

Does this mean Bertram will be doing away with the peel and sniff boats?
