I have 340 Mercruisers with Rochester Q-Jets on a 33' FBC. I'm thinking of getting the carbs rebuilt but have seen some good comments on new Edelbrock 1409/1410 carbs. Anyone have any thoughts/experience with the Edelbrocks? Thanks.

I've had the 1409s on my B31 w/454s for 6 years now without a hiccup. Got them new at Summit Racing for less than rebuilt Rochesters. You'll need a spread to square bore adapter plate.
There is a joint in Long Island that specializes in Marine Q-Jets.
Used them years ago, and had a good experience.
Then again, I bought a used/rebuilt auto Q-Jet over the counter at Autozone one day as well. Plan was to use it only for a certain weekend trip and then replace. Ended up running it for a couple years. It worked reasonably well too. YMMV.
When I asked around, I was told that the 600 cfms would flow plenty and be the better choice for my purposes--454s loafing along making low-300 hp and being run at idle (trolling) or max. 3000 rpm (high cruise). Whether that advice was accurate, I have no idea, but the 600s have been fine.
I highly recommend these guys. They test run every carb and have a 6 month warranty. The Edelbrocks are basically Carter AFB's, which are what I have on my 440's. Very simple and reliable carbs. Carbs Unlimited rebuilt mine 7 years ago and they still run great.
