Tarpon via Kayak
Saw this video made by a friend of a friend who hooked a large tarpon while kayak fishing off of our beach here in Melbourne, FL. There are two segments to the video, but I only have the first link. Go to you tube and type in "Derek Jaffe" to see both. Gotta love it... fishing rod in one hand, paddle in the other and still holding onto the video camera.... has to put down the camera - that's why there are two segments - so he can call his wife to let her know where he is.
The best comment that caused me to crack up was the dead pan "I wish I had a life jacket!"

Anybody can Kayak when its nice and warm.
Ah...your in Florida Bruce.
However, if you want to head up this way and join Randall for a little chilly willy Kayak Fishing when it freezes up...I'll loan you my kayak, even bring it out to Long Island for you. Sure as hell I ain't gonna use it this winter.
dosent matter....ive never actually caught anything worth talking about through the ice. it only freezes about one in four winters. some winters ,about one in 15, it really freezes and you could walk to gardiners island if you had the stones. ive tried ice boating a few times and its a major rush. once...1980... it froze so hard people drove cars on the bay and the ocean froze out a few hundred yards.
I understand the cold perfectly having lived in it, worked in it and hunted in it.
I've also ridden a bike from N. La. to N. Florida in 27 degree weather at 60mph.
Its all about layers and the use of heat paks near your kidneys to keep the blood warm.
If anyone is uncomfortable in cold weather, they're not dressed right.

exactly....i now have "electric gloves"...changes everything for me as to winter sports. those heat packs work well too. i would have given up snowboarding without them.
the picture is gardiners bay as seen from Springs. i actually snowboard on those bluffs when we get more than a foot of snow. kinda pump across em till you hit the beach. lowest altitude snowboarding in the world?
