B-series Serpentine Belt path ???

Post by scenarioL113 »

I was wondering what the correct path for the serpentine belt is on the front of a B-series Cummins. I am only turning the water pump, alternator, crankshaft, and the tensioner.

It seems the belt rides on one of the pulleys with the grooves facing the flat idler pulley.

Is there a diagram of how it is supposed to go?

I am not sure and dont remember. I just installed the engines and never ran them, only fired them up once since I put them in the boat.

And the Cummins manual is first class, get one from Cummins - plenty of step-by-steps on routine maintaince with lots of of clear pix and diagrams.

There are two types as per Cummins
I'm not sure but indecision may or may not be my problem.

Andre' is right on, there is the "old" type and the "nrew" type configuration. The manual explains both.

I have the volume 1 and volume 2 Cummins maintenance manuals. They are real thick and green in color.

They only show the configurations for industrial and automotive, the heat exchanger cooled engine diagram does not show front of engine.

I bought those manuals direct from Cummins and thought they were very vague at best. Diagrams are good but I felt they left a lot to be desired.

I wonder if they are the same books as you guys mention.

Mine are the same as Harry's. The "grooves" ride on the tensioner, is this correct because Harry's are the same as mine.

I guess it is correct.

You have the wrong ones....there is a single operation and maintaince manual for marine B&C engines....mine was printed in 1992 and is Bulletin #3666022-01 The B and C series are the same other than the size of the holes....
