Just got off the phone with Julian Smith (284-494-21240) who owns a marina in Road Town. He says he probably can't lift your boat but maybe. He suggested Nanny cay Marina (www.nannycay.com), my first choice. Good yard and protected harbor. Out of town a few miles which I consider a plus. He thinks they are about $15 per foot per month. His other suggestion was Village Key (www.igy-villagecay.com) which is in town if you prefer and about $18 per month.
For insurance he said to call Caribbean Insurers (www.caribbeaninsurers.co). You will need an approved insurance survey. He thinks about two percent of the value per annum with a $5K deductible and $10K named storm exclusion.
Shipping through Port Everglades, FL at Dockwise Yacht transport (www.yacht-transport.com). This is a wet-to-wet shipping. You drive in, they pump the transporter and refloat her at the destination. Ship to St. Thomas, then motor to West End, Tortola and clear customs. Pay a $200 annual fee and your in.
Book your marina in January to be sure.
Let's get'er done. My annual business trip to Tortola is in February and we'd love to show you our adopted country.
