Whitey caught in RI right off shore

Post by gplume »

Thought you all might get a charge out of this...About a week ago they caught a 1000 pound great white in fishing net just off Scarborough beach in RI. Very near very popular surf breaks, as well as prime striper fishing grounds.....Always a little disturbing to know you've been sharing the same "surf spot" for the past 30 years. (Better to just suspect he's there.)

same deal in montauk.....but no one ever gets eaten.

the day after seeing "jaws" i boat surfed a remote central california reef. paddling in through the kelp bed my friend blake started in with the dum dums. i joked about it but on the inside i was scared shitless. that spot in panama looked like it could be a problem (dirty river mouth). i lasted an hour and a half before i got the willies.

a few years ago they caught the same white twice in the pound traps in gardiners bay.

Is there a fine for the commercial guys taking an endangered species on board. Those are federally protected, bring one home and get caught its loss of everything. Just ask the guy that did it in Cape May.

that was my first thought also....if it died in the net they might have asked for some sort of permission.....research or something?

if not i cant believe they would publicize it.

Big, formidable fish... but it doesn't look like it's a grander by any means.

What's he eating around there? Bass and Blues?
Are there a good amount of Harbor Seals around?
I don't know what the world may want,
But a good stiff drink it surely dont,
Think I'll go and fix myself...a tall one.

Was that the trip with me, dad, and Dick?

By the way, I agree, no way that fish pictured is a grander.

The year before the Jaws movie, me, Dad, and Uncle were chumming tuna in the Mud Hole. Dad was sleeping, Stu was on the bridge, and I was chumming with my feet hanging off the transom, while on our old 33 Ulrichson. I saw this huge shark working it's way up the chum and chunk line. When I finally got Stu's attention, he pulled the pelican hook, told me to cut the lines, said we needed a bigger boat, and started the engines..............

The taking of pictures of fish out of the water and publishing them is getting to become a problem in some states even though you've released them. The laws are usually worded as "In posession of", and they consider a fish completely out of the water as in possesion of.
