bow eye question

I need to provide a bow eye to hold the bow on the stop when retrieving the boat onto trailer, and would like to know if I need to use a stainless plate wrapped around outside like I've seen (Capt. Pat) done, OR preferably just a u-bolt style bolted through to the other side in anchor locker. Adding some layers of by-axial epoxy/glass to inside?

I detect some disbelief in your question Walter? LOL

Hey Rocky's gonna dump her in the farm pond for some crappies!

I just crack myself up!

(Rocky this is also known as hijacking a post and is frowned upon around here.)

Sorry

If you don't want the appearance of the stainless plate on the outside, I would suggest a formed one on the inside with the equivalent of a shaped faring block either under or over it. Hopefully, Captain Patrick will chime in. Walter

Side plates aren't necessary for trailering, only for towing...

1/2" 304 SS No glassing necessary, but you may want to epoxy in a solid flat for the backing plate and nuts to land flat.

Thanks guys, yes Harry for a 31! I'm getting started on it right now. I'll make a flat area on the inside (epoxied in block) to accept the nuts straight, and a slight flat area ground for the outside plate. This will make my retrieval Much easier and safer as I drive the rig up the ramp, as well as on the road shifting and moving at the bow.( I do strap 3" straps at four places also, but the boat tends to fall back a bit when I let off the power on the engines before shutting them down). Thanks again Capt Pat!!

Completed Bow Eye Pictures

Here are the bow eye pictures completed. I took some rudder shelf stock I had left over from Capt. Pat's rudder shelf construction, cut to the shape of the bow, and I epoxied in this V shaped block with 10 layers of bi-axial mat. The shelf material has extreme compressive strength. Now this bow area is a very strong anchor point for the bow eye. Thanks everyone for all your help and input. Rocky
