Our hull No. is 330 and it looks like 1963, but the date isn't clear. Does anyone know?

Thanks

Nic,

According to Lee Dana, long time engineer at Bertram from very early on, the first production fiberglass hull was hull # 101 built in 1961. Accordingly, yours would be the 229th hull built, which sounds right for a 1963 model. Lots of glass in those early hulls.....you've got a solid ride.

Nic,

Production B31 hulls started with the number 101. Your's would be the 229th hull to be produced.

The first B31 I worked on was hull #161, (60th hull produced), done in September of 1961. Assuming around 90 - 100 hulls per year in the early days, that'd put your's on the order of late 1963.

Thanks guys, the 229th is getting closer to her repower - made an offer on a pair of Diamond Series 330hp 6BTAs. Will let you know.

Mine is a blue hulled Sportsfisherman hull 31-382. Although sold to me and registered as a 1966, Bertram says that hull number should be a late 1963. Walter

Walter,

Our No. 330 looks like it has an 11th month date so it was November 1963, for the 229th if that helps you with your build date.

Nic,
I own 31-327, a hardtop express built March 1963 according to the label glassed to my original fuel tank and the label under the port forward berth.

Here are a few Hull numbers of 31's that I've surveyed in the past.

1963 Express -Finest Kind Ed Murray Hull 31-333
1963 Sport Fish- Kahuna Russ P Hull 31-355

I've have at least 15 more but my records are on the other computer in Fl. and I'm in MA. for another month. Hope this helps.

Pete, were going to update the survey after the repower. I'm sure my insurance will go down with diesels.

Don't count on it because your value will go up. They always win.

We got a decent pair of eyes under the port bunk, wet it down and our date is 04...05...1963. Here we call that the 4th of May but where it was written I think that's the 5th of April which ties in with Mikey's advice.

By her next birthday she'll be like new again!

Mine has "Boat #168" written in what looks like black magic marker on several parts (the forward bulkhead, the insides of the flybridge support covers) along with someone's initials. My hull id is a page from a desk calendar from October 23, 1961 with "Boat #168" written in pencil and then laminated under the port bunk. I have some pictures of it if I could figure out how to post pictures.

Here is the thread that tells how to post pictures in great detail. Scan down the thread and there are step by step instructions.
