It’s been a while since I jumped in the sand box, but I thought a few of The Faithful would enjoy some recent photos of "Bluegrass." I am splashing her this weekend and sad (but surprisingly relieved) to say that she is on the market. Many of you helped tremendously with my "project" (a special thanks to Capt. Pat and this site) and I know from experience that there is no better feeling than restoring a Bertram and getting out and enjoying her and watching the heads turn! My kids (5mos and 4yrs) will have to hear about this one, but I am committed to stepping up with a 31 before too long. First time posting photos, but here goes....

walter there they are alpha one conversion. nicely done ,notice the interior;some teak accents and neutral colored cushions .this boat some day can be sold to a family man. i rest my case

Again, it's probably an issue in your browser settings. Do you not see images on other sites also,
or just on this site? Have you tried right clicking on the "red X" and clicking on "Show Picture"?

Make sure that your browser is properly set up to show images:

In your menu bar, above your active browser screen, click on "Tools",
at the bottom of the dialogue popup, click on "Internet Options",
on that dialog popup, click on the "Advanced" tab, (top right),
scroll down to "Multimedia",
place a check mark in the "Show Pictures" box,
click "Apply"
and then click "OK".

Yes Rawleigh, it's me down here in Charleston. Didn't mean to hide behind the "Bluegrass" name, but I figured you could always vouch for me if someone wants to know who this crazy guy is on our site! I really need to send these photos up to Tiffany and Randy and thank them for all that they taught me back in the late eighties. Hope all is well with you and I am surprised you're not in Miami right now! It's that time of year.

Absolutely gorgeous. I am interested as to the motors and performance -- Merc 4 cyl inline? How much horsepower and what is performance?

Power is indeed inline 4s; the Merc 3.0L - 135hp per side. I've found performance varies significantly based on load. Heading out, I am at approx. 22knots burning 10-11gph (total) when loaded with gear and full (147gals) - and on the way back in we pick up a couple knots and hit 24-25 only burning 8-9gph total. All-in-all, despite the power dips, she sips fuel, rides GREAT and has never given me any problems. If money were no object, the 160 (or 190hp) Volvo D3s deisels would be the ultimate power to the B25. I've heard reports of cruise in the 28+ knot range burning 8gp total - very impressive! CMP has it figured out.

Thanks for the information -- about what I thought, which is quite good. I noted the new fuel tank added almost double the range. Again, my congratulations on exceeding what most of us couldn't even imagine.

if you look real closely you can see the grain of the teak runs all the same way.this is the real hard way to build it.instead of one plank horizontal you ran two planks with a spline in between ----nice work.

The trick is to find something you like and make it better, That "Bluegrass" is one pretty 25.
But if you've got the time we can make it better. Tell junior to start practicing with a 6" sander and then get real familiar with a grinder, dremel, vaccuum, media blaster, fiberglass, polyester and epoxy resins, carpentry, electronics, plumbing and spray work. He should also get a job to pay for all of this.
16 is coming fast he better get busy.

Neil, I'm sure Jr has a similar vision to yours of him cruising the open waters in a 25 Bert but I have a feeling his vision will be slightly blurred when he hits 16....

not to upset you guys, but I think I would have a real tough time deciding between a 31 and a 25.

for someone like me who has no use for the cabin the 25 has such a large cockpit, much easier to tow and easier to find a place to put it when its on the trailer. It would suit my needs better.

that boat is stunning, we did some work on a 25 this winter and I wanted to soften the cabin up and put a teak and holly floor in and the owner wanted all white paint, too bad I could not show him this back in November.

robbie is that boat legal to tow in ny? what is the beam

beam is 10', whats technicall legal in NYS? 8.5?

when I say tow, I mean in and out for the season, and incase of repairs.

Not all of us can keep our boats at the marina all winter!

Jr. will appreciate the much larger cabin of the B31 for "getting out of the weather" with a girlfriend???

robbie quite possibly you could put a decent tower on it and fall within 12' law with a 31fbc any tower above the windshield height you would have to remove to put on the road.my4kw- open array radar along with lights ,gps,two antennas,make removing tower impractical,so mine stays at the marina.i would imagine pulling the boat in and out 5 times in a day for prop changes would be impossible on a ramp.i never seen a 31fbc go in the water without a travelall or giant forklift.

if you like to go out by yourself a lot and want to spend considerably less money and still have a beautiful classic blue water battering ram....its a good choice. put in diesel inboards and your as good as it gets in a 25 foot boat.

If the B31 ever gets supersized a B25 with a center console will be the day boat for sure. But first things first

i was gonna reply but ill leave the politics in the politics forum....and reiterate how much i like 25s. when i raft up with friends with stiegers and parkers, both good boats, the difference is so apparent...its night and day. much much beefier and solid.

randall the stiegers have strong issues with cockpit floor.25 bertram to block island model of stieger leaves alot to be desired.you made the right choice!!

Bob- I recall some discussion here about people who trailer thier 31, anything is possible!

When I have a 31 on my yard trailer I can feel the weight on the Clark Tug, when I roll the 25 around its not having a hard time.

I like the 31s, but once you start making them really usefull it takes away the look for me, I like them clean and simple.
I had a 25 in last spring, and I have a 25 in now, and I cant help but think how much better they would suit my needs, on another forum I actually voted the 25 as one of my "2 boats to have if I could only have 2 boats and thats it"- we were being realistic.

BTW- I have 31s dropped in right at the ramp all the time, we have 38' sea rays and other large boats put in at the ramp as well.

robbie i guess i am not as lucky as you with the ramp and long boats.i usually have to sink the truck in the waterup to the bottom of the door to get a inboard 30' off a float on trailer.i would take a 25bertram any day if i had to play the trailer dog and pony show with a 31'

oh trust me it aint me putting the boat in at the ramp, I leave that to the pros!
