Down Angle??

Well I am get the 2:1 ZF gears for the 496 HO. I am told that it was the 425 HP IO engine that Eddie Johnson is converting to an inboard with the ZF Gears. The question is, what is the stock down angle on the engines. I can measure it, but I am pretty sure someone here knows the answer off the top of their heads.

This is going to turn in to more work, but I hold the results will be worth it.

Thanks.

If its the ZF 63A gears its 8 degrees. The 45A gear is the same.

Thanks Bruce, but maybe I didn't ask the question correctly. The gears have an 8 degree down angle, but what is the down angle on the prop shafts in a bertram 31? I thought it was like 12 degrees.

I have the installation drawings for these engines wtih 63A gears, but I would like to set it up for the down angle and get the placement for the engines before the excavator shows up to drop them in. I need to make sure of the placement now so I don't run into a problem later.

Thanks all,

I am not sure of the strut length, but I can measure it tonight. It is the original strut from a 1975 FBC.

Gas powered stock strut length, should be 13 degrees minus 8 leaves 5 degrees for the engine. You could verify with an angle finder. Thats from a 1974 fbc.
