Mufflers or not

Should they be used with the 315 lp's ? Can they be used in place of surge tubes to keep water from coming up the exhaust? If so, what brand should be purchased?
Many thanks.

Surge tubes are a better idea, and Yanmars don't need mufflers. You wouldn't use a surge tube for a muffler, why use a muffler for a surge tube......

Mike,
I was kinda hoping that a muffler might have baffles which would keep water from climbing up the exhaust...and also keeping the noise down..hopefully, killing two birds with one stone. I'm having trouble figuring out the surge tubes. . considering that the exhaust is already in place and the engines also bolted down. Not alot of room to maneuver or to fabricate.

Marine Mufflers is the outfit. Contrary to popular opinion.

Centubular mufflers by Centek use a cone instead of baffles this works well for our application and the muffler is the same size as the tube. 5" 6" or whatever. We have surge tubes
Primex makes a muffler with a check valve built in, I know of a few boats using this with no issues. This may be an option for you.

The best is surge tubes, in lieu of that very high risers and a check valve with mufflers. Personally I wouldn't build one without surge tubes. These boats sit to low in the water and riser height is marginal at 10-12" above the waterline.

JP,

Thanks for responding. I called around and found out that Primex went oob about 2 months ago. I found a source for surge tubes finally, and am taking everyone's advice and will get them installed. I'm still wondering about the mufflers though.
Thanks everyone.

John,

We did not use mufflers on our bahia mar with 240 Ynamars. I would recommend surge tubes but mufflers are a waste of money and space.

Ok, surge tubes and no mufflers. Done.
Much thanks.
