Foul weather gear

I have West Marine rain jacket that appears to be in great condition. It is about 7 years old and not a heck of a lot of use. I found out during Fay that it is now for some reason as water repellent as a cotton T-shirt. I was wondering if anyone has tried ScotchGaurd on one of these jackets. I think it was just under 200 dollars when I bought it and hope it can be saved. Any suggestions?

....................No, I will not spray is with CX!

ScotchGaurd will fix it. Wash it first with Tide. And if that does not do it CX!

If the jacket is Gore tex, there is a spray on product that will rejuvinate the waterproof nature of gore tex.

If not, I am sure that Brewster is correct.

If that fails to live up to your satisfaction it can absolutely be waterproofed by wearing a set of Grundens over it. The overalls and jacket by Grundens will keep a hurricane out, especially if you have your back to it...

Thanks guys. Tide sounds easy enough to me. The jacket is 100% nylon with a polyeurethane coating, which I am guessing is the white coating on the inside. That part is cracked and peeling in some spots. I will give it a whirl though.

If you havce been watching "The Deadliest Catch" show on TV, a lot of the guys wear Grundens gear!

Grundens or Viking for commercial wear. Helly Hanson is OK too.

I too have a jacket that the plastic has peeled and cracked on the inside. I was wondering why I got so wet in the last tropical storm and that was the problem. I think that the heat of being left on the boat or in a car makes them deteriorate over time. I may try Scotchguard. I don't have much to loose!

I kind of figured that Brewster. I bought a new one at the boat show, but was hoping to use it as a work jacket.
