The struggle is over

I just wanted to pass the sad news along that my father (Sy) passed away today at 1:20 pm after a 5 month battle with liver cancer. I personally want to thank each and every one of you that took the time to call him, visit him, or send him a card while he was home during his struggle. Each time a card, person, or phone call came ....it made his eyes light up to know that he was being thought of.

Owning the Bertram and being able to take him to rendezvous and tournaments and just out fishing did a lot to keep him in good spirits. Even though we have had boats since I was a small child, I know the last 5 years were some of the best years of his life. He was so proud to wear his Bertram hats and shirts, and just to be part of this family that we have.

I LOVE YOU Dad.

Harv:

I lost my father on December 30, 2006, after six years of battle with brain cancer. I was only 34 years of age when that happened. He never got a chance to ride my B31 and I think of him everytime I go out to fish. From your words I can conclude that he was very proud of you and what you have accomplished in life. He is now resting in peace and he is in a better place than this one. My condolences to you and your family and keep your head up high when you go out that inlet, because now he will be besides you anywhere you go, anywhere you fish. As you very well said, the struggle is over....is time to heal and to deal with the ones that are still down here.

Next season is up......good fishing to you!

My condolences to you and your family.

One of my uncles passed a couple of years ago.......he and I did a lot together when I was a kid.......Like you, my fondest memories are times we spent fishing in the bays and shooting guns at the local clay pit. My most vivid mental picture is of Uncle dealing with an 11 pound Red Snapper.....he was older and it was a real struggle for him..........we laughed and laughed

I am sure that you will miss Sy.........at least you have the good times

Harv...

Please be assured that the sadness you feel now will moderate over time, but the good memories you have will endure forever. When my stepfather passed away many years ago a good friend of his took me aside and passed on this comment.. simply.. "A man is not really a man until his father passes away!"

I have thought of this comment many times in my life! It is your turn now to pass his characteristics and standards on by living them every day. You can't go wrong if you endeavor to live your life in a manner that would make him proud!

I wish you peace and comfort in your time of grief.

Harv,
I offer my deepest condolences because I, too, lost my father (Bobby Small) Monday here in Pensacola. He was a very big Bertram fan, and I credit him for everything that I am today. Hang in there, brother. We're gonna get through this. My prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.

Harv,

My deepest sympathies to you and your family. I lost my Dad two years ago, and I miss him every day. Similar to your situation, he was my best friend. What a blessing that we had our dads as long as we did, and that we both have such fond memories about them.

Harv,
My condolences to you and your family...Makes me think of all the fond memories I have had with my Dad on his 37 Bertram "Westwater".
The love of the ocean and the bond between a father and son lives on for ever.

Harv, my condolonces - It sound like you've got a great support network.

My Father died a 33 years ago and I still miss him. We scattered his ashes at the Point Grey Bellbuoy which is at the mouth of Vancouver Harbour. I pass it almost everytime I go boating and always say Hi to him. Whenever anything big happens in my life I go out there and we have a chat and sometimes a beer. It is great to have a place on the water that helps you to make a connection.

harv, i dont know you but im sorry for your loss. i too lost my dad this year and i still cry everyday thinking of him. its not just him i miss its the being young, and having a father there to watch everything grow. im sure your memories of him will last thru your life time and beyond. fathers always seemed to raise us when times were innocent. i wish we could all go back, and be young again. tonight i'll try to imagine your dad and mine looking at our boat's and wondering.......why do they always have to fix it? rest in peace.....alex.

Very sorry to hear that Harv. I lost my Dad in 1999 to cancer. No one who has not been through it would understand this, but at the time it was a blessing. Time will dull the pain of the loss and amplify your memories of the good times. Hang in there my friend, we are all with you.

So sorry for your loss I too have lost my Dad back in 2001 after 10 years of many ups and downs. I was only lucky enough to get him out once on the boat and it was the first year I had it, and it was in sad shape! But I have a picture of him in the cockpit that I will cherish for ever.

sorry to hear it, Harv.

I hope he left the world without to much pain.

Lost my father in-law on Christmas day 2007, due to stomach cancer...those Hospice folks are true angels.

Harv,

You may have thought I didn't see,
Or that I hadn't heard,
Life lessons that you taught to me,
But I got every word.

Perhaps you thought I missed it all,
And that we'd grow apart,
But Dad, I picked up everything,
It's written on my heart.

Without you, Dad, I wouldn't be
The man I am today;
You built a strong foundation
No one can take away.

I've grown up with your values,
And I'm very glad I did;
So here's to you, dear father,
From your forever grateful kid.

The really important things in life are the things we can't touch.
God Bless Harv.
