Bookies lose big on Super Bowl

Post by In Memory of Vicroy »

Well, back from a week in the sun at Miami Beach with the Bride, great weather, great antique show and flea markets. Seems I missed a lot here, a lockdown, etc.

I usually don't read the Wall St. Journal, but after the Bride marched me about 150 miles thru the show for 6 days, yesterday I sat on the deck and read whilst she shopped mo'.....got me a Wall St. and seems the Giants fans flooded the Vegas bookies with "money line" bets, like straight up on the NJ Giants at 3 to one and cleaned them out. Most sports books at the casinos declined comment, one admitted to a "modest loss".

On money, the giant Miami Beach antique & jewelry show was mobbed by folks from Europe where the Euro and Pound made them king of the roost...half price....us po' coonasses were left buying from common folk on the street. The amount of money that changes hands at this show is more than the Miami and FLL boat shows combined. Got a few comments on my UVI shirt that Mike the Mean made.....one fellow said, "Sir a man of your means,,,,,hurrmph.......with a Bertram.....needs a better watch than that $75 Seiko"......my response "I is what I is 'cause I don't piss away 50 grand on a watch".......

Word of advice - drive as far as you have to and get a warm weather to warm weather non-stop flight.....we flew from Miami to New Orleans, only about an hour and a half and we were one of the few flight to even go at all....1,000 Chicago flights plain old cancelled. We talked to some folks from the frozen north that were flying to N.O. to fly to N.M. to get to Chicago....somehow their logic escaped me....Chicago is shut down, right?
