Bulkhead Installation question

I know we have probably discussed this before on the board but I tried searching the board but could not find the answer to a question we have in securing the aft bulkhead to the hull.

We have the old rotten bulkhead aft of the engines out and we are wondering what is the best way of securing the center of the bulkhead to the hull since we can not tab behind it do to the fuel tank being in the way. We don't want to pull the tank if we don't have to. Do we just build the area up with Epoxy and then set the new bulkhead into it or do we just let that area behind the bulkhead go and not worry about securing it? Tony Meola

Tony,

That bulkhead can be bedded & tabbed from one side only without causing a problem. Because of the rigidity of the engine beds, the short distance between the stringers, & the weight of the fuel tank, there is little flexing of the hull under the aft bulkhead. If you wanted a more flexible bedding, use 5200 rather than epoxy.

Patrick

Capt. Pat

Thank You. Will probably be calling in March to order the rudders. Hopefully, the work will be done and the engines in by June. Tony Meola
