Oh God, how awful! We all admired the spirit in which he addressed his illness and the treatments he was taking. Our condolences go out not only to his family, but to all of us as he truly was a "Faithful". Walter

I never met or corresponded with Dave, but I always admired the shining optimism that came through so clearly in all his posts. It seems to me that he went through a really rough time and handled himself in a way that would make anyone proud. I think the guys on the bord gave him alot of support and it was on of the few fun places he got to go in the last little while
Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,
But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.
Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;
For though from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.
God speed Dave.

I believe his last post was November 25th.
It bouyed me as I thought if he were well enough to be reading, things might well be improving. Perhaps they were that day.
Dave, I wish you well, and know that you are still here in spirit, despite the fact you aren't at the keyboard anymore. I know you are still reading, and with us all.
You have been quite a help, inspiration, ear, provider of advice, and friend to all of us at one time or another. You handled your challenges with grace and the fight of a champion. I admire you, and miss your words and presence.
We will all see you sooner or later, and until then, tight lines and my thoughts go out to your family. To the Kosh family, I wish for you strength, and happiness. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you for sharing your special person.

Well, what a damn shame. Although we've never met, I was sure his strength and optimism would pull him through this. I'll try to find his obit. and see where he will be resting.
Rest in peace Dave.

Alone I will not be
My comfort will come from the sea.
The stillness of calm waves will
Gently drift by
I will be as one with the sea.
When the sun sets on the ocean blue, remember me as I will always remember you.
As the sun rises…go live life as full as can be
Apart…you and me…but be at peace for I am free

As a child sitting in a restaurant I kept looking from left to right at the entrees and the prices. Suddenly having that feeling that I was being watched I looked up to see my father looking at me with that wry smile. He nodded at the menu and said, "you never know . . . order the lobster."
Life's short, fish hard. Order the lobster.
Miss you Dave.

Sad news indeed.
Like many of you, I never met Capt Dave face to face, but somehow this board makes me feel as if I have met him. His most recent posts gave me the same hope that they apparently gave to many of you. Unfortunately, another good man has left us.
Again; so sorry to hear this news.

Please consider dropping some $$$ Patrick's way in Dave's name. He will be missed.
Patrick also posted Dave's family contact information under the appropriate thread so people may be able to send cards, notes etc.

I had the pleasure of spending a weekend with both Dave and Kevin during our hastily organized (but still fun) Bertram owners "event" last May at Hawks Cay. I can tell you from our brief time together that he loved the time spent with friends aboard his Bertram, and we had a super weekend of fellowship even though fishing was slow.
At the time, he was in remission and confident of his chances, but it just reinforces what we all know deep down-life is short. Go fishing more often, because tomorrow you could wake up dead.
RIP Dave.

Dick,
Please pass on my condolences, and those of the group.
Two years ago Thanksgiving one of my fishing mentors and good friends passed away to bladder cancer. I was happy because I knew his suffering had been extreme. I spoke at his funeral, and was lucky enough to have been entrusted to make the box in which his ashes were buried. One solid piece of teak, matching grain, with brass hinges and clasp. It was fitting of the man.
This summer I had two trips offshore. Never enough, but I took what I could get, and have been dreaming of them since! Boat was loaded with my closest friends each time. First trip we got the 10' blue marlin. Second trip we had 4 albacore and the 150 lb. bigeye. First time for both fish.
Both fish were caught on rods that had been Gil's.
He is with us, has been with us, and has never left us. I sure as heck know he was fishing with us this summer!

Well all, I attended Dave's service today and met Marsha Kosh, Dave's sister Charlotte and her husband. The room in the funeral home filled up to near capacity with family, friends and people from Dave's church. It was a great service and in the end Dave was turned over to a Navy Honor Guard to go to his final resting place.
I conveyed the condolences from his friends and members of the sand box. Marsha seemed to appreciate the attendance of someone from one of Dave's haunts. I told her that I regret that I couldn't keep my promise to Dave and that was to take him out for a beer or something when he beat the big "C". I also told her she could check in with us from time to time.
