serial numbers

Post by pacific marlin »

Is there any kind of catalogue of serial numbers?
Having stipped my B31 to a bare shell,the only # icould find was #66.
This was on a small piece of ply that was part of the helm/electrical bulkhead on my 31 hardtop.
Looking thru the paperwork, I have found reference to #312-251.
Does this correspond with anything?
Just curious, thanks.

Ian,

Try looking inside the hull, under the port bunk in the V-berth for a glassed over paper with the hull number. This was the spot for the early boats. Later Bertram moved the location to the inside center of the transom below deck level. After 1972 or so, the hull numbers were molded into the exterior of the transom, starboard side, just below the guard rail.

The number you found reference to would have been an the open, or convertible model. The sequential hull numbers started with the number 101, so 251 would have been the 150th hull manufactured. That would date that hull at around the spring of 1962.

312 designates the open model (Moppie)
313 = hardtop model
314 = sport fish model
315 = fly bridge cruiser
316 = Bahia Mar model
317 = express model
