A little history first.
I splashed my B25 this summer and she partially submerged. The engines (Merc 3.0s) were 1/2 under water. Starter, alternator, etc.
I had them flushed, run to temp, etc. Full repair would have consisted of bellows job, gimble bearing, new/rebuilt starter and alternators.
I have wanted to repower, so I took this as an opportunity... I got some money from the bookies and am getting ready to have the engines pulled to sell the old iron.
The potential buyer wants compression checked. I know it is fine, but go to the boat, hook up a new battery and click... nothing. I think the starters have siezed. I decided to spray the starters with CX and try again in about an hour.
BINGO! they cranked and I was able to check the compression on all cylinders. Between 135 and 145 lbs on each one.
I really though I was going to have to answer my way out of why the engines wouldn't crank...
Thanks UV for providing a great product to the Bertram community!
Ian.
