A friend sent me a story from a cape cod news paper about a 31 hitting some rocks and sinking...Boat was The Raven. Skipper was saved by the USCG

That boat was all redone as well. I used to keep my B28 in the river and run in and out of there all the time with the new boat. It gets real shallow at low tide if you stray from the channel for about a mile off the mouth. I am surprised by the sinking as that boat is kept at one of the big houses at the mouth of the river and has been there for several years and the Capt had to know how shallow it gets. Then again as Mark can confirm you see guys cut the channel all the way to the no wake zone.

There's a rock in there and that's what he hit. It used to me marked, but no more. He's 77, had a fight with his girlfriend and off he went. You add the rest of the puzzle pieces...

Is the boat going to be repaired?

Now, I ask again, how many of you haven't replaced the strut pads in your boat?????

I'd just about put money on "IF" there were replacement strut pads, according to my way of construction, there would have been no sinking... Just a bent wheel & bruised pride.

Does the phrase; "It ain't IF, but WHEN" mean something now? CAUTION! -- Perhaps the weakest structural element on the Classic Bertrams is the strut backing pad. (Boatbuilding Tips and Tricks)

The cause of the sinking was not immediately known
What a brain surgeon the writer must be!

Patrick,

You saw, at least one side of mine is going to be solid! I trust the other side as well, but your method has been applied to the port side and she be solid!!!! The log was my close call on that vulnerability!

That stinks for the owner of that boat.

Anyone know if she will be repaired?

Patrick,

thanks for the info -- I went and read the article. It is something I had
not noticed on the site before. My backing plates are under saddle tanks
most likely they are original. Next time I haul I'll plan on doing something about this.

I am getting a little closer on the helm pod. My work schedule has wreaked havoc on my rewire plans this summer but we are back at it now.

regards, Merlin
