I know a bunch of you guys have purchased 6BTA RTOs.... can you give me any idea for what kind of price range you paid, and what was included in the price (ie., bobtail or with gears)?
Thanks!

Five years ago I bought a pair with 600 hrs, included ZF trans, shafts, instruments and 5" exhausts for $17,000.
Got batteries this week and will attempt to start same next week.
Pray for me.

I purchased a pair of 6 BTA's 300 HP with ZF 220 gears and gages for $8500. These engines were running but one engine had a dead cylinder. They had 5400 hours on them. I am rebuilding both of them. So far I have spent $6500 on parts and outside labor.

I bought a pair of RTOs 300s from a guy in Fla. he said 1200hrs ran good.(David Hasselman)Close to $20,000
..........W/ gears. 1 wouldnt start if it got below 60degrees.
they lasted about 1 year....I used them for cores when

Al,
What ever you do, have the engines surveyed.
I can't tell you the horror stories of used or rebuilt engines bought long distance on the word of the previous owner.
Never understood the thinking of an individual who would turn over 15k or more for used engines and not spend the money to have them surveyed.

Wayne, I see your buddy Hasselmann is still selling used motors in B&H.

I paid $22.5K for a pair of 2000 hour M2's with brand new ZF220A 1.5:1 gears.
Best money I've spent on the boat.

Hasselman has a pair of 6BTA's in Boats & Harbors now, except he has them described as 8.2 liter engines.

Bruce - completely agree with you... for the next guy, a survey is a must. Those particular motors are still in my boat, am kicking around the idea of replacing with Cummins (new) remans.
