Anyone ship a 31 recently?

Wonder what a very rough estimate would be for shipping a 31. You guys know the routine, hardtop needs to come off, same with outriggers, etc.

Is there a rough cost per mile to use for an estimate?

Would be from the SE area to the Chesapeake Bay. My guess is it’ll be about 1500 miles.

Still undecided if I really want another 31 but I can’t stop looking to see what’s out there.

Thanks.

JK

If not in a rush I believe the term may be deadheading, that is waiting for an empty return trip to add revenue to a transporter that would otherwise make the return trip empty. My dad did that, he had his boat hauled n left ready to go and when an empty rig was available they just went by n grabbed. Much cheaper.

Carl is correct, shipped a B20 from Fla to the NE a few years back and the challenge is most boats this time of year are being towed from down south up to the north.

Talk to a couple local boatyards. They arrange boat transport all the time and can give you contact information for haulers. As Carl said a backhaul should be a fraction of the cost of a priority haul.

Blue Line Marine Transport is a Chesapeake based transporter that shipped my FBC from Long Island, NY to Houston some years ago. His name is Felipe Benedit at 732 778 0136. He delayed the transport a week to coordinate a return transport back to the east coast.Good luck.

Thanks for the help. Have to sell a center console first before making a serious move on a 31. Can't have 3 boats!

Hardtop will have to removed, radar off, outriggers off and antennas down. Shouldn't be terribly complicated but not as simple as a 30' center console.

If you have some fabricators by you consider getting one with no top, the money you save in breaking it down, transport, setting it back up, and possibly repairing some damage could go towards having something made exactly as you want it.

Thought of that. Hard to find one that checks all the boxes at a reasonable price with or without a top.

What's reasonable? And I shipped mine and it had radar / VHF etc and it was around 3500 + 500 to remove Hard top at a Louisiana boatyard - 2 1/2 years ago.

Recent quote was $4.70/mile. Thought that was a little high. Doesn't matter right now, the boat I was interested in has sold.

The search continues...

That is similar to what I paid. What I have found is that marina costs/rates in Florida are about double what they are in Louisiana.
