My Front windows are in poor shape. Tried to use some scratch remover - even compounding. Probably better to just get new glass installed. So whats the procedure to remove these? it looks like they might have a little pin?
Jeremy-If you are talking about the front glass windows they hinge up. There should be two latches on the inside holding them closed. release those and they rotate forward and up, then you can pull them toward you out of the hinge. I took mine to a glass shop and he did a good job at a reasonable price. Unless a previous owner sealed them closed with bedding. In that case I have no advice to offer except find him and abuse him.
If the corner curved plexis they unbolt from the inside but it doesn’t look like that’s what you’re talking about.
I know about the inside release - it looks like they have pins in the corner. Corroded pins - but pins... If that's not the case - and I just need to get them to a horizontal position and pull - I can do that. I have a guy locally that can do the curved windows and I want to get to him before he retires
Looking at an expanded view your front window frame has a slightly different contour than mine and I can also see the pin or something there. The difference may be that your boat is a 1976 and Amberjack is a 1969 model or maybe a previous owner modified the window frame. At any rate I’d enlist someone to give a hand and lift the window far enough to get a look at the hinge from underneath. Be careful, they are surprisingly heavy. If there was a way to install that pin there is a way to remove it.
In the meantime perhaps one of the owners with a similar year model will weigh in.
Timely post!...I'm going to give a shot at restoring mine. As bad as they are, I know they will require some pretty aggressive treatment. I found some folks online that sell kits (Glass Doctors) that I'm going to try. Eventually, I'm planning to glass them in, but this may buy me a little time.
