11/5 Exploring Wicket's Island
Posted: Nov 6th, '23, 08:24
Yesterday was mild and 60 so we took the boat out for a ride. My wife had read about Wicket's Island in Onset harbor so we headed over to check it out. It is a small island which sits in the middle of onset harbor and used to have a home on it and has a small dock that you can tie up to and explore. Even though the temps weren't what I would call warm, we found a couple already at the dock, the guy in a pair of shorts and no shirt hanging out with his feet in the water.

We went up to the top and found the old cellar hole and took a few pics

Then we tried walking around the shore but found our path blocked by a bunch of trees which have come down from erosion. There is a small sandy beach and it had incredibly soft sand and we hung out there and let the kids play for an hour.
On the way home we rode a bit in the canal, going slowly I used my side scan near a couple of the telephone poles #s to check out the bottom contour and look for rock piles. No bird action, but I was still marking a fair amount of fish.
This trip may be the last for me this year, after the clock change this weekend, I will get out of work in the dark and the next few weekends we will be in Maine roaming the woods.
