Successful maiden voyage!

Well, after seemingly eons, we had the boat underway for the first time this weekend! It's still rough as a cob cosmetically, but we have been concentrating on mechanical/structural/safety issues first and she did great. Tootled up and down the waterway for a couple of hours and even stuck our nose offshore for a bit and couldn't be happier.

We still have a ways to go...tachs need to be replaced as they only go to 4k so I haven't bothered checking to see if they are indicative of what the engines are really turning. Electronics have to be learned (whole new system) etc...but she goes where you point her! 35.2 mph on the pins so I'm not sure if we are propped (new props) 100% correctly.

My knees have really limited what I can do myself, which is troubling, but I'm happy where we are.

See you on the water!

Rick

on a side note....hope everyone is doing okay in these times of utter insanity. Working on a post for the politics page once I can gather my thoughts into some kind of coherent manner...but the subject matter doesn't really lend itself to that. All the best to everyone.

Great news. Owing the boat is on thing but being able to use her is the best part. I remember i could not use mine for almost 9 months after i bought her. I think you are in Morehead City?
If so i look forward to seeing you on the water. What is the name of your boat? I will keep an eye out. Look forward to meeting you.
Maybe a short run to Oriental for lunch one day.

That sounds great!

It's the "Capt. Pat" and moored at Harbor Master (on Peletier Creek).

Hi Rick,

Congratulations on getting her under way; I look forward to seeing you on the water around the Morehead/Beaufort area. I think you and I are on the same time-line for our 5-year renewal of our captain's licenses, so maybe I'll see you in Charleston again in the spring. Mine expires May of '22. As Salty Sato said, and Oriental run would be great; but an Ocracoke run would be even better!

Rick, as everyone else said...Congrats! I think we spoke a few months back when you followed me in to pelletier creek. Ive got my boat up in Manteo at the moment tuna/white marlin fishing but as the rest have said, we need to do a trip to oriental or ocracoke. Out of curiosity, what is your boat powered with? Thanks, and see you on the water!

Hi LL,

Yanmar 6lp @315 hp...

Ocracoke sounds great, as I've only made the trip once by boat many years ago!

Congrats Rick!
Many happy days to you with that boat. Do I have it right - you named the boat Capt. Pat??
Best,
Stephan

Yep, "Capt. Pat"...explained to the gentleman doing the lettering why, and he agreed to do it in gold with a trademark indicating Pat was a master goldsmith.

Thanks Tommy, the cabin is still a rat's nest, and the electrical panel needs updating badly, but that's what winter is for!
