They all cant be saved and I think that the insurance companies starting to not insure these old boats will cause more to go this route.

Shame

#2 would have been a special hull to have. I wonder if #1 is still around. I remember reading one time that the first hull was not white, but a shade of orange.

I thought #1 was a sport fisherman. I might be wrong. I probably do have an old article someplace that has the answer, but I have to search for it.

I bet it was 40 years ago when I read. It.

Either way, number 1 or 2, mama Bertram should have been informed in time to save it.

Many years ago I spoke with one of R.Bertrams original partners and he gave me all kinds of info on my boat serial number 535, he explained that the first glass boat pulled from the mold of wooden moppie, went to R. Bertram and was not serialized. He said my Boat was the 36th hull pulled from the original 2-piece mold and therefore was serialized as number 35.

When I asked about the 5 in "535", he said they did not know how many they would sell so in the early hulls the first digit was the month and the next two digits was the serialization number. He Said they originally thought they would never sell more than 100 per year.

I have it all written down somewhere.

Here is a pic of glass moppie
